Coping with Tragedy: Resources for Teachers & Students

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. As educators, we are uniquely positioned to make an impact on our students' lives. As we begin to have conversations about the issues involved with preventing such tragedies, let us take a moment to appropriately address violence and trauma with our students.

The Kansas Association of American Educators is pleased to announce the fall 2012 Teacher Scholarship and Classroom Grant winners. KANAAE judges selected these exceptional teachers from a pool of teachers across the state. Congratulations on showing such innovation in your submissions!

Education Week produced a report today that looks at the changing role of language arts curriculum.  One of the most interesting aspects concerns the changing role of writing in the language arts.

 

 
The Most Effective Professional Development: Professional Learning Communities

While there is still a lot of emphasis placed on teacher’s pursuing traditional professional development, there is more and more evidence that for a teacher looking to perfect their craft, the answer may not lie in traditional workshops or conferences but instead within Professional  Learning Communities (PLCs).
